Daylight Studies

Effective use of natural daylight needs all of a building's elements to work well together, primarily relying on the architect's and lighting designer's inputs to inform the design.

The building's orientation, fenestration, materials and internal finishes are the key drivers in maximising the use of natural light while avoiding overheating.

Engagement with the architect at the earliest stages of a project yields the most effective results, as good daylighting will always impact on the scheme that is submitted for planning. This is particularly true where external shading devices have been chosen.

BREEAM and CfSH set stringent requirements for high levels of daylight with good lighting uniformity. Our in-house proprietary and commercial software allows us to rapidly model internal spaces to verify that the target criteria are being met.
